Een doop in de familie ... wat haal je voor een doopsel van al iets oudere kinderen? Ik had geen idee. Ik wilde wel iets naaien, de beide nichtjes houden wel van jurkjes met zwier. Ik had niet zo veel tijd meer en moest dus snel beslissen.
Mijn oog viel op de Juliette Dress van Lily Bird, een feestelijk modelletje voor echte meisjes. Ik moest tussendoor ook werken, en kom meestal wel heel moe thuis van dat werk. Avond 1: printen en plakken van het pdf patroon en zoeken in mijn stapel stofjes of er wat tussen zat. Lang getwijfeld. Avond 2: de beide maten uittekenen op patroonpapier (ahum, plastiek - de puinzakken van de action) en knippen van de stofjes. Avond 3: het echte werk.
Ik had steeds vroegdiensten, dus avond 1 en 2 moest ik ook op tijd weer mijn bedje in, wat toch lukte. Avond 3 was het begin van een weekje welverdiende vakantie, dus toen heb ik doorgewerkt. Kwart voor 2 's nachts deed ik de lichten uit, het enige dat ik nog moest doen was op 1 jurkje 2 knoopsgaten en knopen zetten. Wat ook de morgen van het doopsel vlotjes lukte.
Het patroon is erg duidelijk, de stappen heel goed uitgelegd. Ik kon het simpel volgen, moest niet al te veel nadenken (oké, de ervaring zal ondertussen ook wel al beginnen tellen) en naaide de beide jurkjes vlotjes in elkaar. Zonder fouten! (da's ook de eerste keer)
Enige minpuntje vond ik de knoopjes op het rugpand: de stof moet daar een beetje overlappen, waardoor er een kleine onregelmatigheid ontstaat eronder: er is geen extra stof voorzien voor het overlappen. Ik heb het proberen op te lossen met haakjes en oogjes, maar dat zag er al helemaal niet uit, dus alles weer losgedaan en toch gewoon de knopen en knoopsgaten.
Beide meisjes vonden de jurkjes prachtig, dus tante Lily is happy!
Both daughters of my brother would be baptised soon. I had no idea what gift would be appropriate for this, as the two girls are already a bit older. I did want to sew something. Both nieces love dresses with flair, but I didn't have much time on my hands so I had to decide quickly.
I fell on the Juliette Dress from Lily Bird, a festive model for real girly girls. I had to go to work too, and most of the time I come home quite exhausted, so I had to plan ahead. Evening 1: print and put together the pdf pattern. Searching for fabric in my stash. Doubted for quite some time. Evening 2: drawing both sizes on pattern paper and cutting the fabric. Evening 3: the real thing!
I had early shifts all three days, so evening 1 and 2 I had to go to bed on time. It was close, but I did it. Evening 3 was the start of a well earned week of vacation, so I worked till the end. I turned of the lights 1.45 am because my eyes were closing, but all I had to do in the morning was making two buttonholes and sew up the buttons. I did that before we left to the baptise, and worked it out smoothly. Yay!
The pattern is very clear, the steps well explained. I could simply follow the steps, didn't have to think much (okay I agree, I'm starting to have some experience) and sewed both dresses smoothly. No errors! (first time for that)
The one disadvantage I found in the pattern, are the buttons on the back: there's some overlap of the fabric, but there is no extra fabric to do that, which makes a little irregularity. I tried to fix it by using hooks and eyes, but that didn't look nice either (it looked worse, to be honest), so I had to undo and use the original way: the buttons and buttonholes.
The girls loved their dresses, so auntie Lily is happy!
