In de afgelopen weken maakte ik ook nog een retro jurkje uit de Knipmode van maart 2019. Ik had bij de Trench Coat uit vorige post geleerd om een FBA te doen. Een watte? Een FBA of een GTA. In het Engels vertaalt zich dat 'full bust adjustment', FBA dus, en genederlandiseerd wordt dat een GTA: een Grote Tieten Aanpassing. Ja, het is soms niet zo gemakkelijk om met een iets grotere voorgevel gezegend te zijn. Ik was laaiend enthousiast dat het gelukt was. Zo enthousiast zelfs dat ik aan de slag ging met een tshirt uit het 200 shirten boek. Ik heb er nog geen (mooie) foto van, maar die heb je dus nog tegoed. Oke, een niet rekkend shirt dat past, dat had ik al lang niet meer meegemaakt (de pré-borsten periode, ja, zo lang al). Ik was nog enthousiaster en ik kon de wereld aan. Yiehaaa!

Dus ik begon aan die retro jurk. Met een iets moeilijker voorpand. Ik paste aan naar wat mij goed leek en deed mijn testversie aan ... ehm. Nee, dat was het dus niet. Helemaal niet, er zat zo een rare bobbel in de stof, opzij van waar mijn borst zit. Na lang twijfelen heb ik het aangedurfd om het patroon te maken zoals het was. Half berekend risico. Maar het paste! Nadat ik de lengte heb aangepast (het kwam zo halverwege mijn onderbenen, ik zag er uit als een bomma!) Ik had dit stofje al een hele tijd liggen, voor een retro jurk, tot ik een patroon vond dat ik er voor kon gebruiken. Dus ik ben wel blij dat het gelukt is!

In the past few weeks I also made a vintage dress from a dutch magazine (Knipmode). With the trench coat of my last blogpost I learned how to do an FBA. I mostly wear knit fabrics, so I'm lazy and most of the time I can get away with not doing this FBA. Sometimes having a fuller bust is not so easy. But, it worked out nice and I was quite enthousiast. Thàt enthousiast, that I tried a shirt in a woven fabric. I had never done that before and I quit bying them because they never fit anyway. The shirt also worked out perfect, but I haven't made a nice picture of it yet? I promise it will come later! After I succeeded in the woven shirt that fitted (it felt like a miracle), I thought I could do anything!

So I started the vintage dress. The front panel was a bit more challenging. I did some changes, taking into account what I learned and on the go googling as well. Then I tried on my muslin. Woops ... Nope. Big nope. There was a bump next to where my breast was. That was totally not the look I was going for! So I took the risk of making the pattern as is. And luck was on my side: the dress fitted nicely. Fieuw. I just had to adjust the length, because it came halfway my lower legs. I was not searching for the grandma-look though, so I cut a nice piece off.

I had the fabric for this dress in my stash for some time, knowing I wanted to use it for a vintage dress and waiting for a pattern to come along. I'm so happy it worked out so well!

met stukjes en beetjes - in bits and pieces

Hoi hoi

Hier ben ik weer. Na mijn vorige post werd het wel héél stil.

De energie raakte steeds meer uitgeput, en na de feestdagen stortte het boeltje in. Met een depressie werd ik thuis gezet. Naaien was de eerste weken niet mogelijk, ik kon mij niet concentreren. Daarna heb ik het weer opgepikt, en ik moet zeggen dat het wel therapeutisch werkte. Momenten om even nergens anders aan te denken dan aan het stuk waar ik mee bezig was. Volgende maand ga ik weer aan de slag op mijn werk. Ik zie het helemaal zitten, heb wel nood aan weer wat andere dingen in mijn dagelijkse leven, maar heb wel schrik dat de energievoorraad snel weer opgebruikt zal zijn. Daarom mag ik progressief beginnen, dan heb ik wat tijd tussenin om te recupereren.

Omdat langdurig ziek zijn ook zijn weerslag heeft op je inkomsten, werd ik gedwongen om eens in mijn stash te gaan kijken om te naaien. Ook wel zo voordelig, ondertussen zijn er toch al een paar zaken geslonken. Toch ligt er nog meer dan genoeg. Ik kom nog wel even toe.

Ik maakte onder andere de volgende zaken:

De rave shirt van George & Ginger, in een prachtig stofje van Stitch, met kraanvogels.

Een mix van twee patronen, in een paneelstofje van Stenzo. De Sahara dress van Bella Sunshine Designs met de open mouwen van de Gloria Dress van 5 out of 4.

Om de naaivibe weer helemaal op peil te krijgen (het was nodig), deed ik mee met een sew along van Rebecca Page. Ik maakte hun trench coat met softshell en katoenen voering. Enkel voor de mouwen gebruikte ik een restje van een gladde stof die ik nog liggen had uit een verrassingsbox van Driessen. Apetrots ben ik op mijn trenchcoat. Hij is lekker warm, eigenlijk is het een winterjas. Op de foto's volledig in zelf genaaide kledij, nog eens de Rave Shirt en een Sansa van BSD.

Ik hoop dat ik nu weer 'back on track' ben met mijn blog ...

Hey hey,

there I am again. It's been quiet after my last post. Very quiet.

My energie level kept decreasing and after the winter holidays, I was a mess. I got the diagnosis of depression and had to stay at home. It was that bad, that even sewing didn't work out. I couldn't concentrate. Everything was too much.

Luckily after a few weeks, I recovered a bit, and started sewing again. It felt therapeutic: I didn't have to think about other stuff than the piece in my hands or under my machine. By now I'm ready to start working again, in June I will start again. I'm so ready to change habitat by now. There's a little fear about losing my energy again, but luckily I can start on a progressive base (I'm not sure if you use that term in english too, it means I can start with less hours an build it up as I go, after a few weeks or months).

Being home, also meant earning less. That way I was forced to use fabrics of my stash. Not so bad haha, because it kept piling. Buying fabrics is a hobby on it's own. And still there's more than enough to keep going for a while.

I present you a few of the things I created:

A rave shirt from George & Ginger. I love that pattern!

A mix-up of two patterns out of my library: a Sahara dress from Bella Sunshine Designs, with the split sleeves of the Gloria peplum and dress of 5 out of 4 patterns. I used a panel fabric from Stenzo for that. I fell in love with the roses and wanted something special for that. I think I did well.

To get my sewing-vibe completely back on track, I joined a sew along from Rebecca Page for their Taylor trench coat. I wanted to sew it for a long time, and I had the fabric for it already in my stash. I only had to find a way to start. I'm super proud on this one. It's a warm winter coat. I made it in softshell and the lining in woven (just cotton).

My son took pictures after a lot of instructions (I wanted to be on the pictures with head and feet, but also not to far away). I'm wearing all selfmade clothes, the shirt is also a rave shirt and the pants are the Sansa (from one of my previous posts).

So, I hope I'm back on track with my blog now ... I still have things to show

Back?

Ik heb de blog een beetje verwaarloosd.

Vermoeidheid en vakantie zijn de grootste oorzaken. Ik heb nog wel genaaid, maar niet zo veel als ik had gewild. Werk en huishouden vergen het grootste deel van mijn energie en met wat gezondheidsissues was de dagelijkse voorraad snel uitgeput. Mijn bedje was mijn beste vriend. Ik was zo moe, dat ik zelfs vergat foto's te maken van mijn werkjes, voor ik ze weggaf aan de persoon voor wie ze bedoeld waren. Oeps.

Vandaag een helder hoofd en een hoop goeie voornemens, de start was het inkorten van de mouwen van een gevoerd regenjasje, met behoud van de manchetten. Ik raakte er eerst niet helemaal uit, maar dankzij het internet vond ik een filmpje waardoor ik zag hoe ik het wel kon. Ben helemaal blij met het resultaat! Weer iets bijgeleerd!

I neglected this blog a little the passing months ...

Fatigue and holidays are the biggest reasons of that. I did do some sewing, but not as much as I would have wanted to. Work and household asked the greater part of my energie and some health issues included, my daily share was spent quite quickly. My bed was my greatest friend ... I was that tired, I even forgot to make photo's of what I made before I gave them away. Oopsie.

Today I have a clear head and a lot of good intentions. I started with shortening the sleeves of a lined raincoat, retaining the cuffs. I couldn't figure it out at first, but long live the internet: I found a youtube movie which made me see how to do it. It wasn't the same as what I was doing, but enough for me to understand how to do it. I'm so happy with the result. Again something learned!

Jumpsuit

Een jumpsuit. Ik vind dat zo mooi ... maar ik ben niet heel slank, ik heb best een volle taille en ik denk dan ook steeds 'dat maakt mij dik'. Maar toch trekt het mij. Ik maakte er twee jaar geleden eentje met een eenvoudig patroontje van op het stoffenspektakel, en ik draag het eigenlijk enkel op vakantie of gewoon thuis. Ben er al redelijk aan gewend ondertussen om het te dragen.

Ik wilde er nog een. Ik kocht een stofje, zonder te kijken hoeveel ik nodig had, en dus had ik weer eens te weinig. Gelukkig koop ik af en toe eens coupons, gewoon van wat ik leuk vind, zonder een projectje in gedachten. Ik had een mooi lichtroze panterprint dun tricot stofje nog liggen, waarvan ik dacht dat het te bleek was bij mijn witte velletje. Maar het combineerde wel leuk met het stofje dat ik nog liggen had, dus ik heb het aangedurfd. Ik naaide een tunnel voor de elastiek in de taille (volgens het patroon moest je de elastiek uitgerokken op de stof stikken, maar ik herinnerde mij van de vorige poging dat dat weinig succes had, en ik naaide onderaan ook tunneltjes met een elastiekje zodat de broek aan mijn enkels een beetje poft.

Helemaal blij mee! Ik ging er zelfs meteen al mee naar een feestje!

A jumpsuit. I like those so much ... but I'm not very thin, I have a quite full waist and I always think jumpsuits make me look fat. But still ... something pushes me towards it. I made a jumpsuit two years ago, with a simple pattern I got from an event. I normally wear it on vacation or just at home and I'm already used on wearing it.

But I wanted another one. I bought some fabric, without looking at the pattern and of course I bought not enough. Thankfully, after 37 years of living with me, I start knowing myself and once in a while I buy some coupons of fabric I like, without any projects in mind. I had a light pink panterprint tricot in my stash, which I didn't use yet because I thought my white skin and the rather pale fabric wouldn't match. But with the darker colors in the other fabric, I just went for it.

I sewed a tunnel for the elastic, because I remembered sewing the elastic to the fabric itself was not very successful when I made my first jumpsuit (although that was in the instructions of the pattern). I also made two tunnels in stead of just hemming, put some elastics in there as well.

I love it! I went straight to a party with my new jumpsuit!

Sahara Dress

De Sahara jurk. Hij stond al een tijdje op mijn lijstje en ik had nog een leuk stofje kunnen scoren bij Kimberley Alleen was dat het laatste restje op de rol, 170cm. Ik had eigenlijk twee meter nodig. Maar ik ben nogal vrij eigenwijs (ja echt) dus ging ik het toch proberen. In mijn stoffenlades (die wil je niet op foto zien) vond ik nog een bijpassend stofje dat ik kon gebruiken voor de voering en na wat passen en meten, kwam ik alleen een centimeter of zes te kort voor de rok. Dat kon wel vond ik, dan werkte ik die wel af met een rolzoom.

Hier dus mijn Sahara jurk, van Bella Sunshine Designs, op een niet zo warme en af en toe erg natte laatste aprildag. Ik vind de lage ruguitsnijding wel leuk (de bandjes horen bij mijn bh, niet bij de jurk, en dat is ook wel eens leuk zo), en een cirkelrok vind ik altijd leuk. Het rolzoompje is ook leuk om te doen, zo makkelijk en zo weinig gedoe (als je het herinstellen van je overlock geen gedoe vind natuurlijk).

The Sahara Dress. It was on my list for some time now and I found a nice and sweet fabric at Kimberley from Stitch Shop. Only ... it was the last on the roll and only 170 cm. I needed 2 meters of fabric ... But I'm kind of stubborn (yeah really) so I wanted to try anyway. I dived into my fabric stash (no need for a photo, I tell you) and found a scrap of matching fabric just enough for the lining. After some trying with the pattern, I only missed 6 cm for the skirt. I thought I could do it like this, and make a rolled hem not to loose any fabric on the hemming.

So above, my Sahara dress from Bella Sunshine Designs, on a not very warm and quite wet last april day. I like the low back (the bands are from my bra, not the dress, and I like it like this), and I always like a circle skirt! I like doing the rolled hem as well, it's a fast option (if you don't mind resetting your overlock of course).
